Andrew Pakes MP
Member of Parliament for Peterborough
I’m Andrew Pakes, and I’m the MP for the Peterborough constituency – covering the northern half of the city.
I’m proud to be your MP for Peterborough – together, we can turn our city around.
I live by Central Park in the city centre, use local services and share the same frustrations many of you have that nothing seems to work well anymore.
One of the things I hear most often is ‘it’s just not working’ – whether that’s trying to get a GP appointment or see a NHS dentist, dealing with anti-social behaviour or finding a good, secure and well-paying job.
Peterborough is a proud working city. We work hard. We’ve got common sense. But for too many people, life is getting tougher.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
We need a new plan for Peterborough. That’s why I am bringing people together from across the city to build a different kind of politics – where we work together to fix problems.
My values come from my parents: Mum was a cleaner and Dad was a car factory worker. They taught me that hard work matters and that there should be no barriers to working class families getting on in life.
That upbringing made education a passion for me. I was the first of my family to go to college and know the value of good schools to getting on in life. When my brother died in 2016, following an accident, I dedicated myself to fighting for better skilled jobs and apprenticeships, and against unsafe, insecure work.
I’ve had a career helping people to get on at work and in life. Success means being pro-worker and pro-business. I helped lead the successful campaign to introduce universal free school meals and have been a foodbank volunteer.
Please get in touch if there’s anything I can support you with.
