My name is Zameer Ali, and I’m honoured to serve as the Labour councillor for North Ward on Peterborough City Council. I am committed to being a strong, visible, and accessible voice for our community, and I’m passionate about working with residents to deliver real change.

In addition to my responsibilities as a ward councillor, I currently serve as the Cabinet Advisor for Finance and Corporate Governance. This role allows me to support the council’s leadership in managing budgets, promoting transparency, and ensuring that public money is spent responsibly. At a time of significant financial pressure on local authorities, I work to make sure that every decision we make reflects the needs and priorities of local people.

I’ve also proudly served as Co-Chair of the Peterborough Private Hire Association, where I’ve worked to represent local drivers and operators, many of whom are small business owners serving our communities every day. A major part of that work has been promoting strong safeguarding standards in the taxi and private hire trade. I’ve actively supported the introduction and strengthening of driver training, background checks, and complaint procedures to help ensure the safety and protection of both passengers and drivers—especially vulnerable residents, children, and women. Public confidence and trust in our trade are essential, and I will always stand up for a fair and safe system.

One of the projects I’m especially proud of as a councillor is securing Combined Authority funding for the redevelopment of a community centre in North Ward. Working alongside my fellow ward councillors, we’ve helped transform this space into a modern, family-friendly hub with updated Wi-Fi, kitchen facilities, and flexible spaces for events and youth activities. Community spaces like this are vital in bringing people together and building a stronger, safer city.

I’m always available to residents whether that’s through ward surgeries, local events, or responding to everyday concerns like housing, anti-social behaviour, or fly-tipping. I believe in listening, acting, and delivering real results. As someone who lives in and deeply understands our city, I bring a practical and compassionate approach to my work.

I’m also a supporter of local health initiatives like the Healthy You stop-smoking service, which helps residents lead healthier lives and reduces the burden on our NHS.

I serve on the Climate Change and Environment Scrutiny Committee, where I’ve contributed to discussions about sustainability, cleaner air, and protecting our local environment. I want Peterborough to be greener, safer, and more forward-thinking.

For me, politics is about service. It’s about fairness, honesty, and working hard to improve lives. Whether I’m helping a family in North Ward, standing up for local taxi drivers, or scrutinising council budgets, I do it because I care deeply about our community and its future.
