Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Peterborough, Andew Pakes this week met with local families concerned about the rising cost of living, paying their bills and energy prices.
The Shadow Chancellor, commented: “It gives you a sense of humility listening to those stories. I was also struck that, in the midst of all they face, they are still doing all they can to help other families. It is incredibly inspiring as well as heartbreaking.
“I met two families who have disabled children who pay more than £600 a month on their energy bills. Those rising costs of living, whether it is energy prices, food or mortgage rates are putting huge pressure on the finances of people in Peterborough.”
Andrew Pakes, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for the city added: “Rising living costs is the biggest issue people raise with me. Families in Peterborough have been let down by the government over rocketing energy bills and rising food prices.
“It is time for change. Working people are being worn out not just with their jobs but with financial stress. No-one should have to lie awake at night worrying whether they’ll be able to feed their children or turn the heating on.”
